Today we’re trying out something new with Engagor. We’ve just included an ‘experimental feature’ in the tool. Sounds pretty mysterious, so here’s the ‘what’, ‘why’ and ‘how’.
Custom chart builder: launched as an experimental feature
From now on, Engagor users with a Professional or Enterprise account can build their own social media charts. Really build it from scratch, so bring on those math skills from your school days! Not to worry of course: we still offer a huge amount of basic charts throughout the Engagor Insights, which you can adjust through filters and export in the format you need. However, there were moments when clients wanted a certain chart, that wasn’t in the tool. This is a problem the Chart Builder solves. For each chart, you can choose everything yourself: which topics or monitored profiles the chart should be about, whether you want to apply a filter, what type of chart you want, what should be shown on the horizontal and vertical axes and much more, if you need or want that.
What can you use it for?
The Chart Builder can be used to build whatever chart you want, based on the data Engagor gathers about your topics and projects. All charts in Engagor are restricted to one topic or one project. With the Chart Builder you can, for example, compare data from topics that are in different projects. Here’s an example of how the number of mentions for Jamie Oliver (project Food Chefs), Lamborghini (project Luxury Cars), Louvre (project Museums) and Coca Cola (project Pepsi versus Coca Cola) compares.
Why did we build this feature?
Clients sometimes ask us where they can find a chart that shows this or that data. Most of the time we can direct them to a page in the Engagor Insights. It is possible, however, that the chart doesn’t exist. You can of course always extract the data from Engagor and make your own chart, but we want our tool to be a time-saver, not a time-consumer. And that’s why we’ve created the custom Chart Builder, to do this work for you.
This is only the beginning
The possibility to build exactly those charts you want, is just the beginning. Ultimately we want our users to be able to set up their Engagor account exactly as they wish. Since we are an all-in-one tool, Engagor can be used by several departments within one company. When these different people log in to Engagor, they have specific interests with regard to what they want to see on their dashboard. Very soon our clients will be able to make custom dashboards, that immediately display that data they’re interested in. This way we’ll tweak usability and help our clients save valuable time.
Just to be sure: as mentioned in the beginning, this is an experimental feature for Professional and Enterprise Accounts. It has to be enabled in your personal settings and can be accessed in the Engagor Insights sidebar.
We offer a couple of templates that you can use for your own data, and as you get the hang of it, you can also save your own charts as templates.
We’ve chosen to make this an experimental feature since we’re not completely satisfied with the usability yet. We feel like people who aren’t very familiar with charts might be scared away because of the many choices you have to make to build one. The input from clients that will enable this feature will thus be very important. Together we’ll construct the perfect Chart Builder: user-friendly, yet extremely advanced.
